Although I founded AVDI, it's important to note that over 10 industry experts contributed their insight and helped shape many of the topics featured in the AVDI lesson plans. These individuals joined AVDI as consultants, bringing a wide range of experience—including body shop owners, heavy equipment specialists, an engineer, RV repair shops, motorcycle managers, marine repair experts, classic car restoration shop owners, field appraisers, and insurance appraisers/adjusters.

I began my career in the insurance industry in 1993 as an auto adjuster with AAA Insurance, transitioning to auto damage adjusting the following year. Over the past 28 years, I've written over 6,500 vehicle damage estimates, covering everything from autos and classic cars to heavy trucks, RVs, motorcycles, and marine vessels. My extensive experience also includes handling thousands of total loss claims and valuations, as well as diminished value claims. Throughout my career, I've served as an expert in more than 30 arbitration, appraisal clause, and court cases. In 2017, I founded the American Vehicle Damage Institute (AVDI), an online school offering courses in damage estimating for a variety of vehicles. In addition to my insurance career, I have 16 years of experience in law enforcement, serving as a Patrol Officer for the Seaside and Coronado Police Departments. In 2011, I founded a national appraisal service, Specialized Claims Synergy.
